The terrorist attack on September 11, 2001 will affect our country forever. I feel I can speak for everyone in the sense that they can vividly remember every single moment of that day and the powerful emotions around them. Even though it is said that time heals these painful experiences, I don’t think a time limit can be put on such a life changing day. This tragedy will be forever extremely sensitive.
So how come movie producers are using this disaster casually in the movie world? I saw a movie this month, that I will not name incase anyone plans on seeing it, that abruptly put in 9/11 for the last ten minutes as a twist. The movie added a subtitle that it was September 11, 2001 and showed the main character in the World Trade Center moments away from death. Leaving the theater almost everyone I saw had tears in their eyes and looked completely startled. Does anyone else feel that it is way to soon and uncomfortable to simply add this in for a shock at the end of a movie?
Hollywood in general exploits disasters too often. There are at least a dozen movies on every American war. But what keeps producers doing it is they are blockbuster hits. Movies like Titanic and Pearl Harbor made millions so they see no reason to stop. Hopefully, the American public will recognize the severity of 9/11 especially since all of the casualties were American citizens not soldiers on the field of battle. The tendency of the American marketplace seems to preach that if money is to be made then the product shall be offered. I really hope Hollywood does not continue to make movies that aren’t even well done and controversial to the American public.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. I think that it is way too soon to be making a movie about 9/11. It has not even been 10 years since the attack occurred. A few of my best friends lost their fathers in the towers and they still grieve over how suddenly they lost their loved ones. 9/11 is still an open wound for many people and I dont think that Hollywood has allowed enough time to pass. I think they need to wait another generation, think about all the young kids that lost their parents in the towers, its not fair to them to be making movies about it.
